From May 12 – June 16 Moosevillians are invited to participate in the community arts retreat in Instagram.
Why a retreat?
Community bonding is an important part of Mooseville’s growth and development. We treat our neighbors as if they were family because no matter the differences in our opinions, we all believe that a life filled with laughter, reflection, forgiveness, and gratitude are the keys to happiness. This retreat is a time to celebrate our shared values as a community.
The retreat is for everyone
We had to create a theme for activities and, after much discussion with city council, we decided the arts would be a universal topic for our first community retreat. Even if you’re not into artistic activities, rest assured, this retreat is still for you.
You don’t have to be Walt Whitman to enjoy a haiku workshop with Mooseville’s resident poet laureate, and you certainly don’t have to be Ansel Adams for “Photographing the Everyday,” a digital photography workshop led by the Mooseville Journal Record reporter and Mooseville University alum, Lensy Shutters.
When it comes to art, there are only two prerequisites you need to enjoy the process of creating: an open mind and a positive attitude.
Instagram was chosen as the destination for our first community retreat because of its spacious camping grounds. My office has already paid for your camping permits, so the cost to you is minimal. Just check in at the #MoosevilleArtsRetreat or the #MAR tent when you arrive, and you will receive your campsite number.
My office will have a resource center to provide a variety of amenities for those participating in the retreat.
- 4 Flashlights
- First-aid kits
- Sun screen
- Bug spray
- Fishing worms
- 3 harmonicas (2 C / 1 A)
- A Tambourine
- A Frisbee
- Bubble makers
- An electric pencil sharpener (can’t be checked out)
- Glue sticks
- Scrap paper
- Trail Mix
- Dog treats
Come and go
You don’t have to stay at the community retreat all the time. Come and go as you see fit. If you need to work, run a few errands, or just take a break from community bonding, Instagram isn’t that far from Mooseville. Go home, rejuvenate, and then come back for more community fun.
#MoosevilleArtsRetreat Check-in Tent
All participants are encouraged to stop by the #moosevilleartsretreat tent daily. If the line is too long, feel free to use the #MAR tent instead.
Can’t make it?
See you in Instagram
I do hope you participate in the community retreat, and I’d like to thank all who have volunteered to make this event happen. Mooseville would not be quite so special without people like you.
